Prohibullshit

Prohibition of marijuana is foolish. I know that this is a topic that people constantly babble on about every day, but every outgoing smoker is proud to stand up for his love of the ganja. Right now I am going to compare two very similar prohibition cases from history and stories of human behaviour that may enlighten those who are hesitant to support the legalization or decriminalization of the herb when put beside alcohol.

First off, marijuana is not a 'drug' in the eyes of many people, it is an herb. It can grow naturally and have the same basic outcome as when it is altered, a high. Alcohol must be manufactured and altered in many cases to get the desired outcome (which is often being belligerently drunk, vomiting, making a complete fool of yourself and passing out only to wake up feeling like and old catchers mitt the next morning).

Marijuana is not what they show it as in the media. A marijuana high simply mellows you out. There are cases where some people get sick from it, but in my experience that is only those who are already beyond drunk. I like to chill out when I smoke. I'll lay back, do some homework and watch  TV. Booze takes you on another whirlwind of an adventure involving stupidity and occasional destruction. That doesn't happen with bud.

Weed is frowned upon by so many people that drink as if it were a game, or a status of pride. How many times have you heard people brag of their hangover or how many drinks they had last night or how attractive they thought that horse was when they took it home. With weed, that doesn't happen. We usually say something along these lines: "Dude, last night was a blast", when in reality if we were to watch ourselves we would have been sitting on the couch for hours just hanging out and doing a whole lot of nothing.

Usually blazing is a social thing. Few true "stoners" will smoke right in front of you and not happily offer you some, we just like everyone to be happy and content. We're thoughtful people who enjoy making friends and spending time with these people.

Stoner is not a universal term. I have recently found that there are two very definitions to the word. When a person who is actively against the use of marijuana call someone a stoner, they say it with hate and disgust, referring to characters that they see as "stoners". When a user says it, they mean it in a friendly way, as if it were a type of brotherhood that deepens bonds of friendship and even with mere acquaintances. So please, those of you who don't toke, don't joke.

Don't get me wrong, there are the odd occasions when you have to drink your face off, but you should always do it responsibly, which many people don't. That is all.

Peace
